Harriet Reuter Hapgood is a freelance fashion journalist and the author of
Coming May 2016 from Roaring Brook Press in the U.S. and Macmillan Children’s Books in the U.K.!
THE SQUARE ROOT OF SUMMER was inspired by Harriet’s German mathematician grandfather
and her lifelong obsession with YA romance.
Harriet studied romantic comedies at Newcastle University, and her MA dissertation included a thesis on
Dawson’s Creek. Her first-ever professional writing credit was for Just Seventeen magazine, and she’s been
YA obsessed ever since. She’s an assistant editor, copy editor, and proofreader with more than seven years’
experience in commercial publishing. She spent five years at InStyle in the UK as a senior ssistant editor and writer,
and has written for The Independent and The Independent on Sunday, The Guardian, and Livingetc,
as well as appearing on the BBC Radio 4 programs Woman’s Hour and Today.
