Start your day at BookExpo in the Librarians’ Lounge by having coffee with some popular
Numbers don’t lie—print may be bouncing back and e-books may be tanking, but audiobooks are the hottest format in publishing today. And that trend, which you’ve no doubt
seen in your library, is poised to continue. “There’s an overwhelming amount of content
being published today,” says PW audio reviews editor Annie Coreno of the boom in audio.
“Unlike movies, television series, or traditional books, you can listen to audiobooks while
you drive or exercise, or even at work. That’s why more and more readers are dabbling in
audio. They are still reading books in their spare time, but also listening to them through-
out the day.”
Have you—or, perhaps more importantly, have your patrons—ever wondered about
what goes into making an audiobook? Here’s your chance to
learn a little more about the publishing industry’s hottest
trend—join a lineup of Recorded Books’s award-winning
voiceover artists in the Librarians’ Lounge. You can ask
questions about the recording process, get autographs
and free audiobook samples, or just chat with the person-
alities behind your favorite titles. Here are four of them.
Therese Plummer, an actor and prolific audiobook
narrator, has recorded more than 200 audiobooks.
Her most recent work is We Are Water by Wally Lamb.
We know how you feel. BookExpo can be an exciting whirlwind couple of days in the
lives of librarians, a test of endurance and an unrelenting blitz of meetings, panels,
and programs, often completed with 30-pound bags of advance reader copies slung
over each shoulder. Sometimes, you need a break. And in the Librarians’ Lounge (booth
875), you’ll get just that.
Thanks to our sponsors—Baker & Taylor; DK; Center Street; Harlequin; Little,
Brown Books for Young Readers; Penguin Random House; Recorded Books; Rowman
& Littlefield; and Sourcebooks—this year’s lounge figures to be our best yet. On both
days of the show, 12: 30–2 p.m., lunch is served, courtesy of Rowman & Littlefield. And
check out PW Show Daily each day for a lineup of exclusive author appearances and
giveaways. Whether you need a place to get off your feet and recharge (yourself, or
your phone), meet old and new friends and compare notes, or hear from a popular
author or two and take home some signed copies, we hope to see you in the Librarians’ Lounge.
